Deadlines for Christmas Deliveries
Posted on December 16, 2011 by Jodi and Julie
We've been gathering information from some of the different food
storage/preparedness companies on how late they can process orders and
still have them arrive by the 24th of December. Here is a little
summary for you so you can do your last minute shopping!
Company: Shelf Reliance
Last Date to Order: December 17th
Company: Emergency Essentials
Last Date to Order: December 15th-19th (depending on location)
To see the exact date for your area click here then click the tab that
says "Guarantee Delivery"
Company: Global Sun Oven
Last Date to Order: December 18th (for most locations)
They are recommending to have orders in by December 16th before 9 am
Central to ensure delivery by the 24th, however they think most areas
of the US can order as late as the 18th and still make it.
We will continue to add to this list as we get more information from
the companies! Happy shopping :)

12 Days of Food Storage Christmas!
Posted on December 12, 2011 by Jodi and Julie
12DAYS We shared this in our monthly newsletter last week but wanted to
post it on the blog in case anyone missed it. Share your love of food
storage and the peace that comes with being self-reliant by doing our
12 Days of Christmas for a loved one this year. This has been a
favorite feature of our blog for a few years now and we continue to
update it with other ideas each year. There are tons of gift ideas you
can do for FREE or very inexpensively to help people get started on
their journey.
IDEAS FOR EVERYONE
You can chose to do all 12 days (you'll have to start asap or you won't
be done before Christmas) or just choose a gift that you think would
help make this a special preparedness Christmas for someone important
to you. The point is to share your love of food storage, and the peace
that comes with being self-reliant. Each "day" will have a theme, and
have 3 gift ideas for you:
* An option that's FREE or under $1
* An option that costs $5-20
* A more expensive option...
12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS
Day 1: Emergency Preparedness
Day 2: Shelves
Day 3: Water
Day 4: 3 Month Supply
Day 5: Long Term Education
Day 6: Grains
Day 7: Legumes
Day 8: Baking Goods
Day 9: Fruits and Vegetables
Day 10: Comfort Foods
Day 11: Non-Food Items
Day 12: Checklists
LABELS AND ACCESSORIES
We also have this pdf for you to print out that has tags for each day,
name tags, and images you can print, and attach to the gifts. Feel free
to use these whether you are doing all 12 days or just doing a gift or
two.
lablepdf-
We wanted to say thanks to all our readers for being so awesome, and
hope you are getting ready for a wonderful holiday season. We're so
fortunate to be able to share what we learn with you all.

Posted on December 8, 2011 by Jodi and Julie
If you have been following our blog for long, you will know that we
LOVE our WonderMills. They really changed our whole perspective on long
term food storage.
The Wonder Junior Deluxe is an incredibly powerful and fast hand
grinder for a mid-range price. You can use it for powerless
emergencies, for daily use, or just when you need to grind something
that won't work in an electric mill like oily nuts and seeds or cracked
grains. The WonderMill Electric is the quietest, fastest, and cleanest
of all the mills we tested and we have been recommending them to
family, friends, and blog readers for 3 years now.

Food Storage Recipe Mixes
Posted on December 5, 2011 by Jodi and Julie
frazzled Are you feeling FRAZZLED? With the Holidays here upon us, I'm
finding that time is running short, and I'm turning to convenience
foods. Not only are convenience foods generally unhealthy, they are
pricey too. Awhile back one of our AWESOME readers Susan W sent us some
yummy mixes for pancakes and corn bread. They make using your food
storage fast, easy and DELICIOUS. Make a batch of these mixes and enjoy
using them when time is running short. You could also package some of
these up in jars and make them cute for neighbor gift ideas. They kind
of remind me of the Dinner in a Jar ideas we wrote about awhile back.
Enjoy, and good luck keeping it together this holiday while USING your
Food Storage!
MULTI-GRAIN PANCAKE/WAFFLE MIX
Grind in wheat grinder:
3 cups wheat
½ cup rye
½ cup sweet brown rice
½ cup barley
½ cup oat groats
Add to above:
2 cups powdered milk
1-1/2 tsp sea salt
½ cup Rumsford baking powder (Rumsford rises best)
Mix all above together and store in FREEZER in Gallon Ziplock Bag for
best freshness.
When ready to use, mix together the following:
1 cup of the above mix
3/4 cup water
1 egg or 1 powdered egg (1 Tbsp powder and 3 Tbsp water)
2 Tbsp oil
1/4 cup sugar
After mixing together, let sit for about 5 minutes or so -- then, ready
to use as pancakes or waffles!
HOMEMADE CORNBREAD MIX
Combine:
5 cups flour
5 cups freshly ground cornmeal
3-1/3 cups white or brown sugar (I prefer brown) - YUMMY!
1-1/3 cups dehydrated margarine or butter
1/4 cup powdered milk or powdered buttermilk
1/2 cup dehydrated egg white or whole egg
2-1/2 tsp baking soda
2-1/2 tsp baking powder
2-/12 tsp salt
Store in plastic container or ziplock bag in fridge or freezer until
ready to use. Makes 14 cups of mix.
For a 9 x 9 pan of cornbread (we prefer in pan rather than as muffins
-- for some reason, tastes more moist), mix 3 cups of above mix with 1
cup of water.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes. GREAT WITH HONEY BUTTER!

Why Food Storage? + Delicious Ritzy Potatoes
Posted on November 30, 2011 by Jodi and Julie
Do people ever act like you are a bit "crazy" for being interested in
food storage and preparedness? We have a lot of readers who love our
Facebook community because they feel like they can connect with others
who understand their need and desire to help their families be more
prepared. While many people first get started with food storage
thinking about a natural disaster type of situation, it quickly becomes
apparent that there are a TON of other reasons to store food. We did a
little series on this that you can check out by clicking below:
-
Well this week I wanted to share a silly reason why I am so grateful to
have my food storage. On Saturday I had to bring "funeral potatoes" to
a funeral for someone in my church. For those who don't know, this is
just a creamy potato casserole with a crumbly topping, my family likes
to call them Ritzy Potatoes. My "pregnant brain" completely spaced this
fact until about 45 minutes before the potatoes were supposed to be at
the church. This was not enough time to boil potatoes and cook the
dish. I started to panic when I realized, duh, I have some freeze-dried
potato dices in my food storage. Might as well try them out now!
It took about 1/2 of a #10 can to make one batch of funeral potatoes,
so they definitely aren't a cost-effective way to eat potatoes on a
regular basis, especially compared to my "free" garden potatoes I've
been eating the last few months. But they sure saved me in an
"emergency"!
Shelf Stable Ritzy Potatoes
So here is the funny part of this story. My husband was so sad when
they brought back the empty casserole dish because he had been
salivating over the smell of them all afternoon. So the next day I
planned to make another batch for our family but realized I had used
the last of our sour cream the day before. So I did what any good food
storage blogger would do and decided to do an experiment and try the
recipe with ALL SHELF STABLE INGREDIENTS. It actually turned out
fantastic! And as we were eating it my husband kept giggling to himself
thinking how funny it was that in an emergency we could have something
so delicious and NORMAL to eat. So here is the shelf stable version of
the recipe for you. Try it out, it will not disappoint.
Back Camera
Ingredients
4 cups freeze-dried potato dices
1/3 cup dehydrated onion flakes
2 cans cream of chicken soup (or 20 ounces bean flour cream of chicken)
1 cup sour cream powder, hydrated
3/4 c. freeze-dried cheddar cheese
1/2 c. powdered butter, hydrated
2 tubes ritz crackers crushed
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Soak your potato dices and dehydrated
onions in warm water. In a separate bowl, soak your freeze-dried
cheddar cheese. While they are soaking, mix up your sour cream powder
with water. My can said 1/2 cup of water per 1 cup of powder, it made a
thin sour cream which is good for this recipe. Stir in your cream of
chicken soup. (I don't store much cream of chicken any more as I prefer
to make my own. So I made a double-batch of bean flour cream of chicken
and then measured 20 ounces of it into the bowl with the sour cream).
Drain your potatoes and pour them into a 9×13 casserole dish. Drain the
rehydrated cheese and add it to the cream mixture. Pour the cream
mixture over top of the potatoes and stir together well. In a small
bowl mix up your powdered butter. My can said to do 1/2 cup butter
powder and 1/2 cup water. This made a REALLY watery butter. Add the
crushed ritz and mix well. It will be quite goopy but it still works (I
would probably just use regular butter for this since I store a ton of
it in the freezer but I was going for all shelf stable here). Using
your hand, crumble the ritz mixture over the top of the potatoes. Cover
the dish with tinfoil and bake for 30-40 minutes or until hot all the
way through. You can remove the foil for the least 5 minutes to get the
topping a little more brown and crumbly.
Summary
Now a lot of these ingredients are NOT cheaper than buying fresh. We do
not encourage you to make it a habit of replacing all of your foods
with powdered or freeze-dried versions. But we DO encourage you to buy
some, try it, learn how to use it, figure out the recipes it works in,
and then store it! You will appreciate being able to make a lot of your
"normal" family recipes in troublesome times.
If you are looking for places to buy some of these more uncommon
storage items, check out the different companies on our Useful Links
page.

NEW PRODUCT: Lindon Farms
Posted on November 21, 2011 by Jodi and Julie
Another booth we stopped at while at the Self Reliance Expo was Lindon
Farms. Lindon Farms is a Food Storage company that sells meals, and
freeze-dried fruits and vegetables. We have always been BIG advocates
for traditional food storage - and we STILL are. Meaning: store grains,
and legumes, learn to cook with them, and make that the bulk of your
food storage. However, there are situations where you may want just add
water meals. In times of natural disaster, or powerless cooking, having
quick meals on hand to just add water could definitely ease stress.
Also, if you're not into canning, fruits and vegetables is probably
something you've been feeling is lacking in your food storage.
We became dealers of Lindon Farms because their products solve these
two obstacles in traditional food storage, and to get you the products
the cheapest possible. Check out our dealer page for additional
information.

NEW PRODUCT: Water Barrel Towers
Posted on November 21, 2011 by Jodi and Julie
new
Storing water is one of the most important aspects of Emergency
Preparedness. We recommend working on storing water at the very
beginning of your journey, in BabyStep 2. There are many ways you can
store water. Once you've stored as much water as you can, you can also
look into filtration and purification options. If you're on a limited
budget, we recommended using juice containers, and soda containers so
that you at least have something (don't use milk jugs, they
disintegrate).
Once you have a little more of a budget to work with you may like
storing water in water boxes, and or barrels. After purchasing a few
water barrels for ourselves, we asked on our Facebook page if people
thought it would be wiser to store these barrels in the garage of the
basement. Since we live in Utah, and earthquakes are a threat here,
most people recommended storing it in a garage so you would have better
access to it in case of an earthquake.
Another suggestion that came through our facebook page was water
towers. We were sent a link to Trigen Manufacturing who made these
water towers. In a perfect world, our husbands would have enough time
to build these for us - but since that's not happening anytime soon, we
got some for ourselves. These are great space savers as opposed to
having barrels lined up side by side, and allow for easier filling and
draining. These shelves are not cheaply made, or going to break down on
you after awhile. They are industrial parts and supplies and therefore
will last as long as you need them to. Here's a little peak into their
3 and 2 barrel towers.

watertwoer The Triple Barrel Tower is Designed to vertically hold 3
blue 55 Gallon Barrels. This will allow you to have over 160 gallons of
water that you know is clean and ready to use. The heavy-duty
construction is made of high strength steel and is easy to assemble. It
safely stores the barrels vertically which frees up valuable floor
space for you. (Barrels Not Included) Dimensions: 6' 8'' tall x 24.5''
wide x 36.5'' deep
double The Double Barrel Tower is made with the same heavy duty steel
as the Triple Barrel Tower but is designed to hold 2 barrels and so it
fits into a shorter space. (Barrels Not Included) Dimensions: 4' 8''
tall x 24.5'' wide x 36.5 " deep

When you purchase the Barrel Towers with Trigen you also have the
option to get the upgraded plumbing kit. This fully integrated option
plumbs the barrels together so that only the top barrel needs to be
filled and the water flushes down through to the bottom barrel. This
allows for easier draining and rotating of the water. Kit contains all
necessary hose, hose clams, fittings, ball joints, and threaded caps
for each barrel to make assemble easy.

Find other ZORGIUM pages using your favorite search engine:
Enter your search keyword(s) and the keyword "zorgium" into the search input field of
http://bing.com,
http://yahoo.com or
http://google.com.
Heads up: There's an ongoing spamdexing of Google searchbot algorithms. Sites that are 'copies of copies' and cloaked sites which include Zorgium keywords presented to search engine crawlers yet garbage content presented to human visitors were hosted on thousands of IP addresses and domains registered immediately after the introduction of Zorgium in November of 2009. The Hostgator/'The Planet'/Softlayer datacenters in Texas seem to be the epicenter of this activity in conjunction with anonymously registered domains of various TLD's but primarily .info domains at Godaddy which, in our opinion, has some sort of connection to the domains of goldmint.in and goldmint.org. Google has begun to notice this and has begun to lower the ranking of these sites and put our original sites back on top of the search rankings. These actions, as far as we can tell, negatively impact the use of the keyword 'zorgium' as a search term and provided little benefit, if any, to the perpetrators.
ZORGIUM note to content providers: If you don't want your page to appear in Zorgium's search abstraction then put an exclusion for "Zorgium" in your web server's robots.txt file.
DISCLAIMER: Zorgium is a free world-wide-web engine from AZ.COM. You may use it, but by doing so you agree that your use of other people's information discovered via our website is entirely your responsibility. Enjoy!
